These Booking Terms & Conditions (hereinafter, "Terms & Conditions" or "T&Cs"), along with the web booking form, and any Special Conditions that may be indicated, constitute the contract between TELEFÉRICO DEL PICO DE TEIDE, S.A. (hereinafter, "TELEFÉRICO" or "us" or "we") and any user interested in our services (hereinafter, "the User" or "you") available on our website: https://www.refugioaltavista.com/. Please take care to read these Terms and Conditions carefully, as they constitute a binding contract between the Parties.

When submitting the web booking form you must tick the "I accept the Booking Terms & Conditions " box next to the form. By checking this box, you declare that you have read these Terms and Conditions, that you accept them and that you expressly consent to all contents of the contract in the version published at the time of acceptance, and that you will comply with them without reservation.

1. The Parties

These Terms & Conditions are published according to the applicable legislation, for the purposes of this contract, the Parties are:

TELEFÉRICO DEL PICO DE TEIDE, S.A., (hereinafter TELEFÉRICO) a Spanish company with a registered address at Calle San Francisco, Number 5, 4º, 38002, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tax Identification Code A-38002549, registered in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Commercial Register on Page 15, File 174, Book 1 of Section 3ª

And the User, identified by the data provided in the online booking form. The user is responsible for the veracity and accuracy of their data and any updates needed. They also confirm that they are at least eighteen (18) years old and have the legal capacity to enter into contracts. Parents and legal guardians are responsible for the compliance minors using the website, both actions taken and any harm caused.

2. Purpose

These Booking T&Cs govern the terms and conditions applicable to Users booking spaces at Altavista Refuge via the website owned by TELEFÉRICO.

The use of these on-line booking services constitutes a contract between the parties with full and unreserved acceptance by the User of every one of the clauses of these T&Cs, without their written transcription being necessary or required by the parties.

3. Booking process

Once the booking has been made through the Platform, the User will receive an e-mail confirming the booking. TELEFÉRICO shall only be bound by bookings that are confirmed by a confirmation email sent to the User from the email address above and in line with the terms and conditions detailed in the email.

If a User finds any errors in the data included in the onlue booking form, they may modify the necessary data directly on the "Manage your booking" page. If you have any other questions, you may notify us within 24 hours of receiving the e-mail, using the address or telephone noted in point 1 of these T&Cs. Otherwise, you will be deemed to have accepted the booking terms and conditions of the booking detailed herein.

On receipt of the confirmation e-mail and if no comments are made by the User within the period indicated, the booking is confirmed and will be guaranteed until they arrive at the Refuge via means of a bank charge using the card provided by the User when making the booking. All of the above, without prejudice to the Specific Conditions applicable to each individual case.

4. Payments

You can pay for your booking by bank card (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, 4B card, Euro6000, Diners, JCB and UPIX) via the Redsys payment platform. The selected card must remain valid until your arrival.

TELEFÉRICO works with payment service providers to offer the most convenient payment methods and keep your payment information secure. When you make a booking, you agree that you must not use an invalid or unauthorised payment method.

TELEFÉRICO will also accept Paypal as a payment method, subject to the following terms and conditions.

5. Changes, modifications or cancellations

Your bank card serves soley a means of guarantee. If you wish to make any changes, modifications or cancellations to your booking, you must do so in advance of the check-in date specified in the Payment terms of the selected rate or offer. Otherwise, you will be subject to the specified charges.

This clause is not valid for bookings made at special rates. For special rates, the respective Payment terms will apply.

(*Discounts for residents and memebers of selected mountaineering associations applied to the prices above: There are special rates for Tenerife residents and members of Canary Islands mountaineering associations, as well as members of the Spanish Federation of Mountain and Climbing Sports (FEDME). The Customer Service team will request proof of this status following the confirmation email. If you cannot provide proof, the rate difference must be paid through PayGold, which is a payment link associated with the RedSys platform, to prevent forfeiting your reservation by paying the applicable amount.)

7. Admission, stay, permits and restrictions.

7.1 Admission and stay.

These are the opening hours you should be aware of:

  • Open from 11 am to 5 pm for the general public.
  • Open from 7 pm to 8 am for guests with reservations. You must check in before 10 pm.

Please note you can only stay at Altavista Refuge for one (1) night.

  • The facilities will be closed to the public from 8 am to 11 am and from 5 pm to 7 pm for cleaning, maintenance and the provision of supplies.
  • The Refuge is open every day of the year, except for the nights of 24th and 31st December and the mornings of 25th December and 1st January, when the facilities will open from 7 pm.

Upon arrival at the Refuge, you will need the following information/documentation to check in:

  • A valid booking confirmation and a form of ID (DNI, NIE or Passport) to stay overnight at Altavista Refuge, even for minors.
  • All guests should check in online in advance or directly at the Refuge.
  • To benefit from the discounted rates in the pricing table, Tenerife residents or members of the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing (FEDME) will also need proof of this status.

We would like to inform you that staff will be present to assist with any enquiries throughout your stay at Altavista Refuge.

7.2 Trail permits included in the reservation:

TELEFÉRICO would like to inform you that overnight stay at the Refuge entitles you to the access permits listed below, without having to apply separately for these permits on TenerifeON. Presenting your booking confirmation for an overnight stay at the Refuge at the trail checkpoints allows you access as follows:

  • Access to Montaña Blanca trail 7 between 3 pm and midnight on the day of your overnight stay and between 9 am and 12 pm on the morning immediately after your overnight stay.
  • Telesforo Bravo to Pico del Teide, trail no. 10, from 6 am to 9 am on the day immediately after your overnight stay. Important: you must leave the trail by 9 am.

Additional information about this access permission: Access to these trails is regulated by the Tenerife government via the TenerifeOn website as part of the safety and conservation measures for the National Park.

How to get to Altavista Refuge?

You can get to Altavista Refuge on foot, via the Teide mountain trails.

  • Access to the trails on foot to reach Altavista Refuge (PNT 11 Mirador de la Fortaleza, (a free access trail), and PNT 7 Montaña Blanca, (a restricted access trail), or to climb the peak of the Teide, PNT 10 Telesforo Bravo, (a restricted access trail)) is included in your reservation for an overnight stay at the Refuge.

a) Getting to Altavista Refuge:

There are two ways to access the refuge on foot:

  • Climbing Montaña Blanca trail (no. 7): a challenging, difficult trail, as it covers rocky terrain with a steep slope and visitors will need to cope with the altitude. It takes between 4 and 5 hours of walking uphill to get there, visitors can walk between 3 pm and midnight on the day of their refuge booking. Please note that you must check in at the Refuge before 10 pm.
  • Travelling comfortably via the Mount Teide Cable Car (prior reservation essential): from the upper station of the cable car, you can access the Altavista Refuge via Mirador de la Fortaleza trail number 11, which then links to Montaña Blanca trail number 7 towards Altavista Refuge. It takes about an hour to reach the refuge. Important: please note that the cable car may not be running due to weather or technical reasons, if the cable car closes, the only way to reach the refuge is to take trail number 7.

b) Leaving Altavista Refuge:

  • Walk down trail number 7 (Montaña Blanca) between 9 am and 12 pm on the morning after your overnight stay.
  • Weather permitting, you can also take the cable car from the upper station to the base station at Mount Teide Cable Car Visitors' Centre (tickets are not included in your booking for the Refuge). Important note: Cable car descent tickets cannot be booked in advance, they are subject the cable car running and therefore can only be booked at the top station by scanning a QR code using a mobile device and paying by credit or debit card. No cash payments accepted
  • If the cable car is not running, you must walk down trail number 7 (Montaña Blanca) between 9 am and 12 pm immediately after your overnight stay.

7.3 Restrictions

  • As the main access to Altavista REfuge is via the Montaña Blanca trail, which is a difficult climb, people with heart, respiratory or mobility problems cannot stay overnight in the refuge in line with the trail restrictions.
  • Pregnant women are also not allowed to stay in the refuge overnight because of the health risks caused by the altitude and the Montaña Blanca trail.
  • Given the difficulty of climbing the Montaña Blanca trail and the possibility that the cable car may not be running, children under 14 are not allowed on trail no. 7 (Montaña Blanca) or in the Refuge, and minors (age 14 and over) must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Pets are not allowed in the Refuge.

8. Refuge Rules

The Refuge accepts no liability for guests’ or visitors’ personal belongings.

Rules for anyone using the Refuge facilities

The following is expressly forbidden:

  • Lighting fires or candles, smoking, or using any oxidising or combustible materials that could pose a fire risk to any part of the Refuge (inside or outside) and its surroundings.
  • Consuming and/or selling spirits or alcoholic beverages on the premises or in the immediate surroundings.
  • Moving furniture or other items from their place or taking any fixtures and fittings outside.
  • Operating any audio equipment that refuge staff deem to be disturbing other guests.
  • Entering areas restricted to staff or for the use of overnight guests (the lounge, kitchen and dormitories) without having an overnight booking.
  • Using the Refuge for anything other than its intended use.
  • Leaving items lying around or blocking access that could prevent people from exiting the Refuge quickly in the event of an emergency.
  • Camping or staying overnight in the area outside the Refuge.
  • Using recreational or private drones throughout the Teide National Park.
  • Littering or leaving rubbish at the Refuge or anywhere within Teide National Park.

Additional rules for overnight guests:

In addition to the rules listed above, overnight guests at the Refuge must comply with further rules regarding the use of the facilities to ensure a pleasant, respectful stay for all guests and staff.

The following are expressly forbidden:

  • Cooking on the premises (you may reheat pre-prepared food in the microwaves provided).
  • Entering the dormitories before 7.00 pm and sleeping in the common areas.
  • Failing to allow other guests the rest they need. Complete silence must be observed from 10.00 pm until 6.30 am.
  • Remaining in the dormitories after 8.00 am, unless there is a valid reason such as illness or injury. Refuge staff must be informed in the event of illness or injury.
  • Leaving behind rubbish or the sleeping bag required for an overnight stay at the Refuge. Guests must take everything with them when they leave.
In addition, guests must:
  • Help to preserve the Refuge, use the facilities, equipment and services appropriately.
  • Use the Refuge’s electricity and water resources sparingly. The Refuge is not connected to the mains supply, so guests must observe any instructions and restrictions issued by staff.
  • To ensure a pleasant and safe stay along with the general upkeep and smooth running of the Refuge, please follow instructions given by staff at all times.
  • Show ID for your overnight stay at the Refuge. Follow these steps:
    • All guests need to show a valid booking confirmation and proof of identity (DNI, NIE or Passport) to stay overnight at the Altavista Refuge, including minors. All guests must check in, either in advance via the website or, failing that, directly at the Refuge.
    • Where applicable, proof of Tenerife resident status or membership of the Spanish Mountain and Climbing Sports Federation (FEDME) is required to qualify for the relevant discounts.

9. Mandatory equipment and safety recommendations

9.1 Mandatory equipment:

Please note the following mandatory equipment required by TenerifeON for trails number 7 (Montaña Blanca) and number 10 (Telesforo Bravo to Teide peak).

To access the main routes and especially the ascent to Pico del Teide (the summit), you must have the following equipment:

      • Suitable hiking boots: The volcanic and stony terrain requires sturdy shoes with good grip. To access the Teide trails, you must to wear appropriate footwear. In other words, you must have hiking or closed-toe sports shoes with a non-slip sole. For safety reasons, it is expressly forbidden to wear heels, wedges, platforms, loafers and shoes with smooth soles or open-toes/heels.
      • Warm, weatherproof clothing: Temperatures can drop sharply, even in summer. Warm, weatherproof clothing and a thermal blanket are compulsory. It is also compulsory to bring a thermal jacket or equivalent and have long trousers (wear or carry them in your bag), even in summer, plus a hat and gloves in winter. The weather can change suddenly.at high altitude on the Teide. Low temperatures, strong wind and extreme sun exposure are common, even on seemingly stable days.
      • Sufficient water: Dehydration is one of the most common risks. Carry at least 1.5 litres per person. It is recommended you bring some food with you for energy.
      • A fully charged mobile phone: This is your main tool in case of emergency.
      • A torch or headlamp with spare batteries: Essential if you plan to walk at dawn, dusk or during the night.
      • Dormitories at the Refuge do not have any bedding for hygiene and environmental reasons: a sleeping bag is compulsory. Personal documentation (DNI, NIE or passport) and your booking to spend the night in the refuge and to access Montaña Blanca trail number 7 and Telesforo Bravo trail number 10.
      • Beware of ice and snow at certain times of the year: Should the Montaña Blanca (number 7) and Telesforo Bravo (number 10) trails be closed because of a decision to introduce preventive measures due to ice and snow, access will only be permitted to expert mountaineers who sign a declaration of responsibility (which can be downloaded at TenerifeOn). Technical winter clothing, crampons and ice axes will be required. More information at TenerifeON

9.2 Recommended equipment

In addition to the mandatory equipment listed above, it is advisable to bring:

      • Sunglasses and a cap or hat to protect you from the sun, even on cloudy days.
      • High protection sunscreen.
      • A lightweight backpack, filled with just the essentials.
      • Hiking poles may be useful on steep sections.
      • Coins or debit/credit cards for the vending machines for water, hot drinks and non-perishable food at Altavista Refuge (banknotes cannot be used).

9.3 Specific rules for access to Pico del Teide

      • Telesforo Bravo trail number 10 is the only permitted route for accessing Pico del Teide.
      • Your reservation to stay overnight at the Refuge includes access to the Telesforo Bravo trail (number 10) between 6 am and 9 am. You must leave the trail by 9 am
      • Maximum simultaneous capacity: 50 people on the trail, 10 in the crater area.
      • You are not allowed to walk the entire edge of the crater, nor to enter it.

9.4 Specific rules for access to Montaña Blanca trail number 7

      • You will reach the Refuge via the Montaña Blanca mountain trail.
      • The reservation to stay overnight at the Refuge includes access to the Montaña Blanca trail (number 7) between 3 pm and midnight on the day of your reservation (ascent), and between 9 am and 12 pm on the morning immediately after your overnight stay.

Beware of ice and snow at certain times of the year. Should the Montaña Blanca (number 7) and Telesforo Bravo (number 10) trails be closed because of a decision to introduce preventive measures due to ice and snow, access will only be permitted to expert mountaineers who sign a declaration of responsibility (which can be downloaded at TenerifeOn). 9.5 Recommendations.

At TELEFÉRICO we would like to remind you that, for your safety during your stay at the refuge you must:

      • Wear warm, weatherproof clothing and footwear suitable for the mountains, even in summer. Only bring what you need, so as not to overload your backpack. Please note that water, soft drinks, hot drinks and non-perishable food can be purchased from our vending machines at the refuge. If you wish, you can bring your own food and heat it up at the facilities.
      • Protect yourself from sunstroke with sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen.
      • Carry sufficient water with you during the ascent and/or descent. If you need more water, remember that, although vending machines carrying water are available in our facilities, you will need coins or a credit or debit card to use them (banknotes are not accepted).
      • If you experience any symptoms of altitude sickness, start your descent as soon as possible.
      • In case of serious illness, call 112, the emergency telephone number.
      • Remember that our facilities have toilets but there are no showers.
      • Always act prudently and at your own risk.

10. Data protection

The information or personal data you provide will be treated in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Policy. By proceeding via the web booking form, you give us the right us to process your personal data in accordance with your consent, as well as for the actual contractual obligations of these T&Cs.

Every person staying at the accommodation must have personal identification documents, as well as any proof of status needed to verify:

      • that the booking conditions and any conditions for subsidised rates are met, such as the age of minors, residence status or sporting memberships, as well as the identity of the guests specified on the booking,
      • and that the person making the booking is the holder of the bank card used to make the payment/pre-payment for the booking.

In light of this, you acknowledge and declare that all the information or data you have provided us with is true and correct.

11. Exclusion of liability

Except in those cases expressly described in these T&Cs and to the extent permitted by law, TELEFÉRICO shall not be liable for damages of any nature that may be due to the lack of accuracy, completeness or timeliness, including errors and omissions, of the information contained on our website. Likewise, it is also exempt from any duty or obligation to verify or monitor its content and information.

12. Applicable law

These T&Cs are governed by Spanish law, specifically, Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007, of 16th November, which approves the Revised Text of the General Law for the Defence of Consumers and Users ("TRLGDCU"). Law 7/1998, of 13th April, on General Contracting Conditions; LSSICE; the General Data Protection Regulation of the EU 2016/679, the European Parliament and of the Council law of 27th April 2016, on the protection of natural persons concerning the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, repealing Directive 95/46/EC (‘GDPR’); and the Organic Law 3/2018, of 5th December, on the Protection of Personal Data and the Guarantee of Digital Rights (‘LOPDGDD’).

13 Resolution of conflicts

Any dispute in relation to the present T&Cs shall be submitted to the Courts and Tribunals of the City of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, unless the applicable regulations establish the competence of other Courts and Tribunals for these purposes. If the User is considered a consumer, the applicable jurisdiction shall be that of their domicile.

If one of the provisions of these T&Cs is declared null and void, the remaining provisions shall not be affected by such nullity and shall remain in force for the parties under the agreed terms. Any stipulation that could be affected by such nullity must be replaced in accordance with the law and in line with the original intention.
